Robin impressive in Chennai ODI loss

Robin Uthappa, more or less is now a certainity for the first choice opener spot in the world cup, after this audacious innings he played in the 3rd ODI against WI. He went bang bang with an incredible array of strokes, played mainly from the front foot and in sheer desperation Lara threw in Gayle in the 11th over. I wish Robin would have somehow waited for one more over before taking on Gayle. That airy fairy lofted shot meant the others have to pick up but with so many question marks in Indian batting, they fell by the way side, even though 268 is not a bad score. Considering where they were after 10 overs and after the Sachin/Dravid stand, Yuvi failed to deliver and so did Karthik. Raina did not impress either and the tail came and went. I was not impressed by Sachin's boring 50 (even though , Vengsarkar keeps pointing out how great he is in every available sound bite) and the larger question of his overall confidence and fluency remains as such.
When WI batted, it was quite clear that Sreesanth need not be trusted in the ODI game (at least not yet, since he has been giving away - not one but 2 boundary balls almost every over, he bowls). Samuels and Lara batted well enough and although there was some artificial excitement at the end (which led many a paper to write - Thrilling win etc), it was a tame finish by India on a wicket, where they should have scored 375+, after being 95/1 from 10 overs.

With Robin clicking, will you opt for 4 potential openers in the world cup squad, or will you include the likes of Kaif/Dinesh Mongia/VVS in the middle order?

I guess it is a tricky call, and that either Ghambir or Robin will miss out in the WC birth.

Going by what I saw, I don't think Sachin fits in the middle order. He is a total misfit in it. Dravid, opened up a bit sooner thinking that Sachin will be there till the end. But unfortunately that is not the case. Dravid looks to be in better touch that any of the Indian batsmen. I am very impressed by his stirke rate these days. close to 90 per hundred balls.

Ghambir once again wasted a good opportunity and threw away his wicket. Utappa played a gem of an innings, but got out at the wrong time. Raina, least wrote better.

Yuvraj looks totally lacking in match practice which is understandable. His fielding was also not up to the mark as he dropped a catch. Though not a sitter, but by his standards he should have taken it.

Dinesk Karthik, proved law of averages. The tail, came in and got out. Without offering any resistance.

In the bowling department, we were pathetic. Agarkar started off very well, but with runs flowing at the other end, he couldn't do much. India missed Zaheer.
In the spin department, I guess Kumble will be travelling only on reputation rather than performance. Powar bowled well, but again gave away some runs. We missed Harbhajan there. SRT's inclusion didn't help the cause though. He gave away too many runs. And S.Sreeshant was more like the 12th West Indian playing giving away far too many wides. I guess he will not be in the WC list.

Yep..no room for Sreesanth. You can even take Joginder but not him for WC. As far as opener vs middle order bench, I will prefer Robin ahead of Gambhir. The reason is that in current form, Robin can come good every 1 out of 4 innings, whereas that average beased on past performance is 1 out 10 for Gambhir. Robin is not such 'close your eye ans swing types' like Gambhir. He too is is living a charmed life but there is something about him that makes you feel a bit more secure.
