Dinesh Karthik proves his worth
Dinesh Karthik silenced all the nay sayers who had been hollering 'What is this Madarsi doing @ number 6' by a remarkable innings. On a wicket which merited the term, 'the cowdung roll out' with puffs of dust coming from 1st delivery, the ball barely left boot laces. The usually consistent Indian batting habit of inconsistency returned and the top order caved. Sachin looks to be on borrowed time and he simply needs to quit before the pressure gets any further worse than what it is now. Karthik played a lovely innings and Agarkar, who hardly looked the batsmen with a test 100 for several years now, contributed for once. Joginder, who was labelled as an allrounder (after batting at 7 for Haryana !!) again proved that there is a big gulf between International level and Ranji games.
When WI batted, almost every one bowled well but they could not get past C'paul. Numerous run out chances were missed but India clawed out of a bad situation on a wicket that suited them. Powar bowled a dream spell and the rest of WI batting caved. It was a decent win but I guess, the wicket should be awarded, the worst ever possible award.

It is good that we are playing matches in these wickets. Atleast we will know what we are going to face in WI this March.
This also proves the fact that Indian batsmen prefer a good patta wicket and that they are not willing to play the waiting game.
These pitches test the quality of batsmen.
Australia, surprisingly this CB series, is preparing absolute crap wickets, probably with the idea of getting used to conditions in WI.
Though their stroke makers did struggle, they do have guys like Hussey and Clarke. They are willing to stick on and put a price tag to their wicket. When require they also shift the gear.
Other teams, I guess will be hoping AUS have a bad day rather than they having a good day !!!
Coming back to DK. I guess he played his heart out in yesterday's match. He was willing to apply himself, and when presented with an opprotunity he was didn't shy away from using the long handle.
I was reading Dilip Premachandran's World cup 15. http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/277643.html
To my surprise I found the inclusion of 4 potential openers. SRT, SCG, VS & RU ! Dosen't make any sense! Instead I will be going with Kaif (remember he scored 3 50's in 5 innings in WI last year) or Dinesh Mongia or even VVS.
The rest I guess is ok
What is your take on this subject ?
Cheers

Prabu..The WI pitches have lost the bite and the general financial mess has led them to offer pitches that are slow and low. I do not think that they can change drastically, just for world cup. Given all this, we are not going to get patta wickets, where absolute belters are required. We need at least 1 player who can play the waiting game and that will be Dravid. I am still ambivalent on Kaif - He has struggled in SA but WI will be different of pitches. It would not hurt to have him in the bench.
On a related topic - about Mike Hussey..man !! does he ever get out? he belongs to that unattractive but effective left handers and in terms of stats - almost repeating the Michael Bevan act not only in ODIs but tests too. In tests, he is perhaps next only to Punters in the Aussie line up. All this - after coming to the side at the wrong age - 30+. But, if you examine his county and Pura performances over the years, you will see that he is no flash in the pan. He was always known for very big 100s..180 or 170 types...I wish India can have one such, ever green, ever dependable and ever consistent player
